Application for overseas education in Germany

Applications for overseas education in German Universities and institutions are accepted throughout the year. You can apply in either of the sessions mentioned below:

  • Winter or Autumn Session in Germany starts in the month of September or October. The application procedure for winter session begins in early May and continues till July 15th.
  • Summer or Spring Session in Germany starts in the month of March or April. The application procedure period begins in early December and continues till January 15th.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • German Language Proficiency
    • Each university in Germany has its own admission and eligibility criteria set for international students looking to get admission. Hence, it is advised that you check the university website and their admission requirements to apply for a course of your choice.
    • Students interested to take a course in German medium, then they need to take a recognized German Language Proficiency Test, such as DSH (Deutschen Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang) or TestDaF [Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache (Test of German as a Foreign Language)] and submit a proof of German language proficiency.
  • The general admission criteria for German universities are as follows:

  • English Language Proficiency:
    • All International applicants are required to take English language proficiency tests, such as IELTS and TOEFL and submit their test scores to get admission in the college. Minimum IELTS score needed to get admission in a German university is 6.5 and the TOEFL score that is needed to get admission is between 79 and 101.
  • Academic Requirements for Undergraduate courses in Germany:
    • 10th pass certificate or 13 years of Education
    • 12th pass certificate with minimum 65 % or above marks
    • Students aspiring to get admission for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) should have Mathematics in class 12th.
    • Some universities require SAT
  • Bachelor programs duration in Germany:
    • Each university in German offers an Undergraduate program with 6 semesters which a student should complete in a 4 years period. It also includes a 1-year program called Foundation year/Freshman program.
  • Academic Requirements for Postgraduate courses in Germany:
    • Undergraduate certificate from a recognized university or 16 years of education.
    • Some masters programs accept a 3-year undergraduate degree.
    • Undergraduate with minimum 65% marks.
    • For pursuing an MBA program, students need to produce at least 2-years of relevant work experience after graduation.
    • For pursuing MS programs in a German University one has to take GRE/GMAT test. While for pursuing or MBA program or studying economics or law in a German University students need to appear in GRE test. Students will need to produce their GRE/GMAT test scores for admission in a German University.
  • Postgraduate program duration in Germany:
    • Generally, a master’s program has 2 to 4 semesters which should be completed within 2 years of enrolling. This means the program is completed within 18 to 24 months of enrolling.
  • Ph.D. study in Germany:
    • Student must have completed 18 years of education
    • Student should produce strong research proposal
    • Student should submit an acceptance letter from a professor in Germany who is willing to guide him/her in his/her research work
    • Strong academic background. Students should have scored at least 70% in both Bachelors & Masters in order to apply for Ph.D programs in prestigious universities/institutions in Germany.
    • Note :GRE or GMAT scores are not required for admission in Ph. D program in Germany.

  • Ph.D. program Duration in Germany:
    • The duration of Ph. D program will majorly depend on the topic of the candidate’s research project. Usually, the time taken to complete Ph. D course from a German University is 3 years to 5 years.

  • Proof of your funds showing that you have enough financial support to cover your living cost during your stay in Germany.
  • For Pursuing Post-Graduation in Germany:

  • Copies of class 10th, and 12th class pass mark sheets and certificates
  • Under-graduate degree pass mark sheets (including backlogs/re-sits)
  • Statement of Purpose or Application Essays
  • Application Form
  • Official transcripts
  • GRE or GMAT score as per the university requirement
  • Letters of recommendation from the university or college (2)
  • Work experience certificate (if any)
  • Details of your passport, which include your name, your date of birth, expiry date and country of issuance. Besides, you also need to attach expired copies of the passport.
  • A recent photograph of the applicant
  • Proof of English language proficiency, which could be a score of IELTS or TOEFL Test.

  • For Pursuing Ph.D. in Germany:

  • Official transcripts for both Bachelors & Master’s degree
  • GRE or GMAT score as per the university requirement
